A Note from Pastor Emily
“Fall marks an important change in the cycle of the
year. This change means that summer has passed.
One season ends by blending into another. Here is a
change of pace accenting a rhythm in the passing of
time…Nothing is lost, nothing disappears; all things
belong, each in its way, to a harmony and an order
which envelops all, which infuses all”
-Howard Thurman from The Inward Journey
Fall is my favorite season. The temperature
begins to move from hot to cold, we exchange our
shorts and t-shirts for jeans and sweaters, we indulge
in baked goods filled with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger,
cloves, and allspice, and we begin to see the earth
prepare its body for the cold. The transition into fall
is fast, and you might miss the leaves changing colors
if you blink. The earth seems to slow down, but I
cannot say the same for the church.
In the life of the church, fall is when things
pick up. Ministries begin again, new programs launch,
and soon we will be hoping for winter respite. The
harmony that happens in fall is the well oiled
machine of the church that worships together,
studies together, serves together, and eats together.
There are a lot of things going on this fall, so make
sure to look at the calendar.
Two things that I want to highlight:
• Widows and Widowers Group – starts Monday,
October 6th at 11:30 am at Country Side BBQ.
• Bible Study – begins Tuesday, October 14th at 6
pm or Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30 am.
We are falling forward with many opportunities for
connection and community. I hope that you will make
time to join us as we live as people of God and build
God’s Kingdom here on earth. Happy Fall Y’all!
