Pondering from the Pastor
Do you like to read? Have you checked out our church
library? We have some awesome books ready and
waiting for you to check out and read. We have nov-
els, study books, devotion books, Sunday School class
books, biographies, Bibles, books about the Bible,
books about Methodism, church business books, and
children’s books. We also have a few DVD’s of faith
inspiring movies.
One particularly good group of books are from the
United Methodist Women’s Reading List. Stephanie
Goudreau just picked out, The Virtues of Aging, by
President Jimmy Carter. If there was someone who
knew about living well after retirement, that would
be Jimmy Carter!
Your growth as a Christian can be greatly enhanced
by reading! We often talk about coming to church to
hear other people’s faith stories around the table and
in the pew. Reading about other people’s faith stories
is an even more concentrated way to learn how God
has worked in different people’s lives.
In addition, those of you who have not been able to
attend a Sunday School class or a Bible study are
more than welcome to come and check out some of
the study books in the library. Several of the studies
even have DVD’s included, so you could listen and
watch a lesson as well as read the book.
I love to read! Which is fortunate since it’s been my
job as a pastor to read and study for over 36 yrs. now!
I’m not sure where I’m going to put all my books
when I retire, but a few will be donated to our
fantastic library. Maybe you’d recognize some of the
stories I’ve told in my sermons!
Come check out our library! It is full of wisdom and
inspiration! – Pastor Barb
